Here is my official thank everyone and remember the season thread.
Remember in Novemeber when the WBS Penguins came to town? We brought a penguin on a stick, chanted "Bonvie Sucks" and considered ourselves ruthless? That was the berth of a family. Every game we showed up and poured our hearts into a team who showed more heart than any fan could show. A team who perserved through injures, through call-ups, through career-ending accidents. Remember New Year's Eve when the team attributed it's victory to us getting the crowd going? Then we had a party here? We toasted to the Calder Cup and smashed Mountain Dew cans in celebration. It was below zero then. Almost a half a year later, on the last day of May, the season ended. No Calder Cup that we had toasted to. But who would've imagined, as we stood there in the negative weather that we'd be showing up at games with shorts on and a high of 80 outside? It was a truly special season. We made signs, pissed off opponents, made friends at the Civic Center, and burned a bear. We were a force to be reckoned with, and by far the best fans in the league.
Remember the dawning of the "You Suck" chant?
Remember driving around the CCCC after games, yelling out the window in celebration and begging for more? Begging for one more win, one more game, one more round, and finally one more championship. We were as focused as the team.
Remember having to be restrained as we lost our cool on opponents as we defeneded our players inside the CCCC and even on the streets (Daniel Sparre comes to mind).
Remember running through the lobbies as Aaron Gavey buried an OT winner versus Hershey in March? Remember when Crosby was sidelined with anal rippage?
Remember "We Hate Seeley" chants? "Let's go to the bus!". You all know what I'm talking about.
From men with sombreros to our hero dressed as a pirate, we met so many people that have touched my heart, and I'm sure have touched yours.
Where would we be without Switchboard's help? And Greg's assistance in starting SVRA in the first place? Greg Glynn is by far one of the best in the business.
And where would we be without Jordan? Dineen? Oullette and Marsters down on the boards helping spark every chant? Even Tanguay working the consessions. Everything was special. The stars were lined up and everything fell into place the way it was supposed to. Next season, perhaps a different outcome.
Remember Shannon's quote: "Is that real hair?"
Remember Gillies giving us love, OB giving us water bottle squirts, and Shannon's props in an intermission interview? All our videoboard apperances? Being row of the game?
Remember when Bruno buried Hartford in Game 3?
Remember the feeling that covered us head-to-toe as Pierre's shot found the back of the net in Game 6? Remember standing on the roof chanting, celebrating, running through the garage? Remember tossing the wolf off of the roof? Remember the sheer joy that swept over the city? And finally, recall the 2nd intermission of Game 5 versus Hershey. Saying our good-byes. Thanking everyone for the fun ride it's been, and wishing summers of sun and fun. Then the unthinkable happened. We won the game. TO THE PARKING GARAGE!
Then finally, Game 6. Have you ever felt such sheer joy, such hope after a hockey game? Running through the garage. Standing on the Spring Street median chanting and acknowledging passing cars with enthusiasm and honking horns. There were no need for good-byes here. We were seeing everybody in Round 4. The Calder Cup finals.
And as Eric Fehr's bullet found the cookies that momma has been hiding, it all ended. Without saying good-bye to the people who made it possible. Without seeing our team one last time.
The chants of P-I-R-A-T-E-S will forever echo in my mind the way they echoed through the streets of Portland in celebration. I think theres a reason we didn't get to say good-bye. It's because we're not done yet. We've got one more chapter to write in this book. That page will be turned around October 15th, 2006.
I love you guys, and thanks. Your captain, M. Buotte

that really touched me im not going to lie and all of those are great memories and i cant wait till next season where we make an even bigger mark and make a stand. show everyone what real hockey is all about. we play with heart unlike the other cheapshot artits who dont deserve to be in the calder cup finals. but that is all done with now and next season is where we shine and show great pride and we will be ready to make sure the whole CCCC can hear us

Well that right there is quite accurate folks, I know im gonna miss these boys. Sucks we couldnt see them play one last game here, game 7 should have been here period, but w.e im not gonna complain about that, this season was easily one of the best any fan could ask for.
I remember the first game I ever came to back in the 95-96 season, the last time the Pirates made it to the calder cup finals. It was a similar story to last nite. OT Goal by the opposition about the same time into a period. They traveled back to Rochester for Game 7, the game 7 they earned cause they were the better team record wise, Rochester ended up winning that game and becoming the champs. Yeah the pirates lost in OT, but I came back, and became a die hard fan. Thats what we all just gotta do now, sure its different, we didnt get tos ay goodbye to the team, we know the team, we went to every game almost.
Ill add some more memories of this season. Alot of the best were the off ice ones. Talking to Gillies and OB about Louis, Bobby drinking with random peeps in Ptown, girl asking Bobby to sign her tit, thats the good shit right there.
Some of the games this season were unreal and Ill never forget.
New Years Eve I think sticks out to everyone, the chant between the 3rd and OT, that was nuts, SVRA became a huge thing after that.
Brents buzzer beater vs Manchester
Gaves OT goal against Herhsey, after Louis turtled against OB, OB pistol shoot like Jordan did.
Game 1 of the playoffs, we fucking killed the Bruins
Brunos OT goal against HFD in the playoffs, that was unreal
Pierres series winner in OT against HFD, him waving the rally rags during the interview, tahts what i like to see players getting nuts.
You know pirates fans care about this team more than anything when you got hundreds of fans staying after weekday games to chat with players, fucks chool we all say, lets just chat with Z, even if its for 2 sec. I think the games got even better once we got to know each player. Anyone remember the first game you attended this season? Did you care, no, you didnt know the guys or the team, it was just another team, but it wasnt. From all the different guys we brought in, Jordans incident, the fights, the goals, the comebacks, the saves, the chants, the autograph signings, the warmup cds, the laps, the fights inside the CCCC, it all paid off in the end, we didnt win the CUP, but we changed pirates hockey forever and that wont change, we just gonna build upon it next season...as the great Switchboard said several times...."If they lose...Ill see you next season guys...BYE BYE"
That we will switchy...

Well I'm not done, since all Ive been doing lately is thinking about this season Ive thought of some more stuff that was pretty cool.
Theres some people I gotta talk about that Matt did as well.
Lets face it, if Marsters, Gaves and MRs Gaves wernt down there banging on the boards, SVRA probably wouldnt be that good, they help us out alot.
Greg Glynn, guys a zig, hes the one who told the organization about us, most likely if Brian Petrovek heard about us he probably wouldnt put the time into getting a hold of us, but Greg talked with him and convinced him we were legit fans and we were gonna bring something to this team. God Bless Greg
UMAINE...that guy is quite something, he certainly made games extra fun this year, cant wait to see whats up his sleeves this season.
Then there are those random people you dont know there names but they were cool haha...well Mark Moroon who was our sponsor, hes a cool guy as well, any guy giving us free tix and talking about us on a lunch with Brian Williams deserves some love from us.
But the guys in V who we dont know, they just always says tuff like "Get a lil louder up there boys!" "How about that Fleichman" At most rinks normal fans dont just go chatting with any old random fans, but our fans do, I think we had an impact on them.
Something else that came to my mind that shows the heart of the fans is Jordan Smiths accident. That game was scary, does anyone know the outcome of that game, I dont, I didnt care, all i cared about was going home and finding out if he was gonna be ok. Sure pirates fans love goals, fights, hits, but we care about other stuff as well, anytime I see a player even hit the ice and looks hurt I get nervous, these guys were special and we cant afford to lose them.
To the Hershey Bears who are in the finals, yea you beat us on the scoreboard, but we are the champs, we have overcame more obstacles than you, we deserve it. Louis you got a chance at winning a cup, unfortunately you probably care more about winning in the trash talking department, Pirates Players we want it more, we will be there next season, Its not about the skill in this team, its about the heart.

Ya people I got more to say, probably no one is going to read this but hey, I dont care I gotta let some stuff out.
I was just thinking about the past few pirates seasons and well probably only matt remembers this stuff but Ill let you all in at the fans we used to be.
Take last season for example...we knew the players names, we knew Louis was a talker, we knew Fussey was a pansy, we knew Mink was a nut, we know Verot wasnt ok, but we didnt know them as people like we do our guys this season. Last season we would sit down in different seats every game, over the past 5 years I have probably sat in almost every fucking seat there is in that beautiful shithole ;D We would see the players we hate, yell occasional you suck, boos here and there. If we made a good play, which didnt happen much we didnt do anything we just watched on. If we won we said hey good game, now what?
Lets see this season we on most days Go to Corsettis sometimes 2 hours before game time get a whoopie and a beverage, go to the civic center chat with some people, go up to V put our stuff down, go down and talk with Marsters and Gaves, heckle some visiting players go chat with our players, boy that was fun, warmups, Ill never forget the "You playing?" "OOO yeah", Fist pump from Bobbys first game, winks from Smiddy, Forbes flipping me off(talk about hershey class), barrett talking back, stroshein being confused. But it didnt stop there, we went up to V, listened in for scratches and starting lineups. From there we'd get a hands in after the NA, wed cheer loud as hell, get sore throats didnt bother us(Well haha some didnt yell, you know who u are), wed do some laps in between periods go back up and do it all again, after the game wed go nuts in the garage, beep horns....Talk about a difference between seasons.
Ill never forget the autograph sessions we went to, the shit we've heard from players.
Gillies..."Yeah disturbed was awesome, I had backstages passes!"
The Perry and Getz auto session, greg was a riot that night, perry discussing his fights. Think about it we chilled with 2 guys that tore it up in the NHL and here as well.
The first one we went to, Marsters and Hynes, marsters and hynes haha, but it was still a blast.
You know funny thing about a season is you become to hate and love soo many guys on your team. You dont like the guys that mess up and cant score alot, you love the guys that fight and can score alot. But in all seriousness everyone who played here I loved. Sure we crap on Pohanka and Hynes and Rome. But you look at the guys they playing with theres good talent here, they are good guys but just a little less of the players that are above them. We all know we got on OB for getting dumb penalties and the ones the other night. But cmon, without OB on this team, it loses alot of humor and fun, hes a great guy, and hes talented, you wont here another team fan say that, cause he probably did something to that team on the scoresheet or in someones face, he backs up what he says, hes everything Louis wishes he could be.
The guys who battled through it all, Zenon, has anyone ever seen a guy like him, he is a warrior, its all you can say, he does it all, I hope hes here next season but he deserves to be in the NHL.
Hurme I dont blame you for the loss the other night, you faced alot of shots in every game of that series, we took some dumb PIMS, we got tired, you played a hell of a game a hell of a series. Good Luck whereever you end up next season.
This is my last post tonite, im sure there will be more over the summer, I gotta do something to stay intact with this team.
But heres the last thing I wanna talk about, its kinda ironic that the songs me and matt listen to on the way into every pirates game actually had meanings to this team and this season. We end every car ride in with Our Time is Now by Story of the Year, enough said, our time was now, and it still is. Ex's and Ohs by Atreyu we always listened to, a part of the song says, I can feel my heart beat racing, thats what every game was like throughout that playoff run. And finally I felt that the new song we added to the Hershey series "Your Private War" by Atreyu is a perfect song to keep listening too, I thought of this one part while Louis was running his mouth all series
"tell your stories run your mouth and tell your lies"
I think thats self explanitory for anyone who knows Louis.
I didnt think about this line in the song much until tonite, but its kinda a perfect line for the Pirates Season and the End of it.
"so raise your voices and hold your hopes up high"
GO PIRATES
05-06 NEVER FORGOTTON 06-07........

Everything you guys said (including the honorable mention for me and phil from mike) was all the things i could never think to say, all the memories i wanted to remember. You nailed it on the head, we were a family, and all the times we won we celebrated together, and all the times we lost, we just stood up in section V when all our BFF's came by and crapped on the refs with us.
Every stain on the floor of Row 22, Section V, it all tells a story, and a good one at that, but we will have better ones to tell...next year

Mike, you were 100% correct. I will never forget these amazing memories of you boys.
Buotte, that was one of the most amazing, meaningful things I have ever read.
You are right. We weren't meant to say goodbye. This isn't over. Hell no. Not even close. I think this is the birth of a legacy.

So raise your voices, and hold your hopes up high.
Exactly what we'll be doing next summer. Great quote.
I like the part about chatting with Zenon. Let's stay there for an hour just to talk to Zenon for 10 seconds and tell him he played a great game. That's what I love about us and this team. It's just the whole experience, the whole enigma that was and will be Portland Pirates Hockey.
I'm sure there will be changes to the Pirates as well as to SVRA over the offseason, but it will all be for the better.
Hold your hopes up high.

Everyone remember the WBS game where even the WBS announcer said he wishes more fans in the league were like us?
Well even people from VT do, in the paper there was a comment that Matt pointed out where this VT guy was talking about how we got the team going and how we were soo sick.
Pirates fan as we know "Marsters" responded. Turns out his name is Andrew and refers to us as the "enforcers" aggressors or enforcers its all the same.

all of the stuff is all 100% correct and i am glad to be a part of this great organization. yeah i know i dont yell a lot but w/e i still love going to the games and seeing the team that i love and yeah kevo you also forgot clouts in there cuz he doesnt yell much either. next season is going to be so awesome and i cant wait. everything buotte and mike said really touched me and meant something to me. this season has been remarkable and just simply amazing and i will never forget the 05 - 06 pirates you guys changed my life. all the great memories at the pirates games and just everything else that we did i would never trade those in for anything
to some of the greatest fans in pirates history i will see you all next year at a place i like to call my second home.

Like I was telling Matt yesterday, it could end up like the sox seasons a few years back...02 season the sox sucked, pirates sucked last season, 03 season the Cowboy UP year for the redsox they lost in game 7 of the conference finals against the biggest rivalry, this year the same thing for us, the next season the sox won it all for the first time in a long time, next pirates season...could we see the same?

Well its now been a few days since the loss, im feeling a little better, however still sad, calder cup finals start tonite, kinda brought back the feeling that those damn bears are in it and they should not be.
We seem to be getting prepared pretty well though, gonna be an insane 06-07 season.
Time will tell if we are warriors like Zenon or not...Can we manage to wait 3 months to see hockey again? 4 to see the actual season begin? I think so...wont be easy but we will see some boys over the summer, Greg, Geoff, hopefully Andrew "marsters" and I really wanna see switchy, sad that we all said see you next round, I wanna see those peeps atleast before next season.

Post by LightItUp4126 on Jun 2, 2006 19:33:19 GMT -5
they cleaned out their lockers yesterday, that was what actually made me realize this season is over, and its not so much that we lost, its that we are going to lose all of these amazing players due to call-ups, contracts, not being old enough, etc.
It's all so sad that i wont be able to see these guys like bruno and gavey. But change is not for the weak, and i would say this team is not weak, and will survive. All of these great players are leaving Portland, and we may never get to see these guys again, but to say it would hold them back would be a completely unknown statement.
Just to say "good game" to bruno one last time, thats what i would want, to congratulate this team for an amazing season.
And i would love to go see marsters, gaves, mrs. gaves, greg glynn, that guy who likes fleischmann, the pirate and his poor wife who he drags around, id want to see him without his beers, but i would especially like to see switchy, I dont think we were ready to say goodbye to our Civic Center Family. 4 months for me would be too long for me to go without this team.
When the 2006-2007 Season starts up, i dont know what will come of it, i dont know how we will do, i dont know if we will be the worst team in the league, or if we will dominate, it all depends on the talent Dineen is able to harvest, and if the heart that we saw in this seasons team will return, the will to win, the will to want to go out and show that we are capable of once again being the #2 team in the playoffs, or maybe better...
I guess if i had one word to say to this team it would be "thanks" because every night, for an entire winter, and almost an entire spring. They played because they wanted to, because they could, and i like to think we played a small part in this teams success. But i would want to say thanks for all the memories, all the good times they brought us. if they didnt play their guts out, i wouldnt of ever gotten so involved in this team, and never would have gotten to know all of you today like i do.

Kevo, we too bad you arent a knowledagble hockey fan along with your brother cause you both would know the type of team we probably would have. We definitly arent gonna blow next season. We have alot of FA yes, however they are obviously gonna resign about half of them, guys become FA every yera and get resgined, new guys will be in, but they arent gonna go after guys that wont have an impact. Id assume Zenon is the first guy they go to.
