Dead or Alive?
Here's how I look at it. I am not totally sure if it is dedication or interference of other things that is not making SVRA work this season currently. Back in September I think we all determined we would all be able to make a lot of the games. Apparently WHS hockey has conflicted with a few games, Matt and I have not been able to attend all games, others just dont want to show up or do SVRA, is estes alive?
Do we officially retire SVRA now or does anyone still want to do this? I will most likely miss 5-10 games or so second semester, out of my control due to hockey and baseball, I am sure Buotte is the same way. This isnt the way Id like SVRA to go out. Are we gonna have to wait until the end of the season and we are in the playoffs and then some pople actually give a shit again?
Anyone wanna do it Saturday? NYE I have to leave early unfortunately, I am not sure if we'd be able to get our seats anyways but, lets determine whatis going on here.

I'd love to do it Saturday...I don't think we should go out this way. If we can get everyone there let's do it Saturday, and go from there. I'm extremely disappointed we have not done SVRA once over Christmas break.

Well by the activity on this board and the lack of talk of SVRA in general, dead it appears.
Matt made an interesting point on NYE, SVRA was there, but spread out in different sections apart. Atleast Drew and CO. still do chants here and there and will keep w.e is left going, randomly people will start some chants now, atleast mroe than pre-svra. Maybe that is what we were meant to do...

I think it'd be sad to go out that way...
I don't understand why people don't want to go to the games and do the chants, etc. People all around the Civic Center are always asking me (and I'm sure you other guys) why we aren't up there making noise, etc. And it's tough to just tell them that no one wants to...we're supposed to be the most dedicated group of Pirates fans out there and we don't even show up. We have a great team this season and I don't see why we can't go to some games and get the building rocking like we used to.

I was willing on NYE.
But things just aren't the same. Back in 2005/2006 things were only for fun. Last year it got more of like a job. It's not fun anymore.

Back in 2005/2006 things were only for fun. Or was it because the Pirates were winning Blake? I'll keep it short, but if you guys want the SVRA to mean something you need to ensure that everyone is there not because they were told to show up, but because they want to be there... I've kept things going, because win or lose I'll be there... I make no excuses why I can't show up, and in my case I ensure my slate is entirely clean during those 40 home games... I've lost on a good chance at a promotion, earned Erin's angry glare quite a few times, and spent more money than I can possibly imagine by going to the 4 C's... I'll make a fool of myself by starting a "Let's go Pirates" chant... I'll lead a post-goal P-I-R-A-T-E-S chant along with maybe 4 other people, drawing weird looks and stares... I'll jump and hollar in good times and curse and pound the boards in bad times... I'm there when the Pirates suffer a pathetic beating from a divisional rival... I'm there when half the crowd could care less whether it's a Pirates game or no... But the point is that I'm there, doing what I do, to support the Pirates... Someone asked me awhile back, why I support the SVRA... My reply was that they are good for the Civic Center, they keep fans interested by creating an electric atmosphere... The reply to that was, "yeah, when they actually show up...And it seems they only do so during the good times... Unlike you who's there win or loss..." After that comment it made me realize that outside of a few of you guys there really is no commitment to the Pirates... The commitment is there only when the times are good... Some of you are, dare I use the term, Bandwagon jumpers... Fairweather supporters... Awhile back you guys made an effort to be there, to be loud, and to always support the Pirates... How many of you still hold true to those 3 values?

2 years ago was fun because it didn't start planned. We'd go to Wendy's to take stacks and stacks of vouchers so we never had to pay. I'm sure somewhere some of us still have some. We'd all be dressed in different things. I love the shirts, don't get me wrong, but it's just different now. Sure, the team was winning, but they aint doing too bad this year. And we'd have like random people show up. It was hilarious.

Here's what I've got to say, I may get shit for what I'm about to say, but whatever, I'm Estes, I do what I want So, last year I joined SVRA due to the fact that all of my close friends were in it, and it was fun, I knew jack shit about hockey let alone the Portland Pirates. It was a blast, and over the course of the year I became a Pirates fan, am I as dedicated or as die-hard as the other SVRA members, no, because I've been a fan for about a year and a half. But Blake said it perfectly, it's become a job. It's no fun when it's a responsibility to chant and liven up the crowd. I get the same for the superfans at WHS, "Estes you going to the game tonight" "Estes I wanna see you in the bleachers" but last year I had all my friends going, and it was a blast, but this year, with all my friends gone, superfans got old due to the expectation of me needing to be in the stands and support the team. And the question of attending annoys the hell out of me. The same goes for SVRA, I mean, SVRA will always have fond memories, but nothing lasts forever, I agree SVRA shouldn't go out like this, but we do need to go out at some point. I love the support from the fans such as from Drew and everyone who's with him, and the fans when we do show up. Personally, I think making a comeback this year was a mistake, maybe a new years eve appearence would possibly of been neccesary. To cut this shorter than I planned, being expected to do something takes the fun out of it. I have a blast when we do do SVRA. Last season Mikey was the only one in college, so 1 member not being at some games didn't make a huge impact, this season Blake, Kevo, Matt, Phil and myself are the only ones who are still in high school, Oli, Buotte, Mike, are in college and prep school. So it makes an impact when the leaders cannot make games. But one positive thing that came out of SVRA was, other fans noticed us, and other teams noticed us

Here is the thing. This is not directed at anyone in particular, it is just a statement in general.
I older than all of you, and much older than some. Not saying that being older means I know everything. I can be immature like all of us are. But I know when and when not to be. And I have simply just lived a few years more than some and in only a few years you can see a lot change and understand a lot more about the world and yourself.
The major problem with SVRA since Day 1 is not dedication, its not hockey IQ, it's not the teams play, it's not personal matters, while those are all minor factors and major at times, the most major thing since Day 1 that has had the biggest effect on SVRA attendance is $$$.
I have heard all the excuses in the world, I have covered people's way, not seen the money come back, if I wanted to I probably could go buy a new computer today if I collected what is owed to me. It is 8 bucks people, once it was 6. Some of you need to understand that in life not everything is going to be free and handed to you. If you like the team enough pay your way or pay someone back. And it isn't just at the Pirates it is at other places too.
Once I thought to do SVRA you had to be a little weird and immature to actually wanna do it. Truth is, you need maturity to do SVRA. That is not present in 50 or 75% of SVRA.
I honestly dont think anyone except myself and a few others can say that the teams play last year and this year dont have an impact on whether they want to attend. Unless this team is 80-0, some of you will consider the team straight up shitty cause we dont have Neids or Teemu here and there isnt 9-2 games. I have been there through most Pirates history and seen some shitty ass teams and stuck it out. Drew is right. THere a lot of bandwagoners that are in and have been in SVRA.
So if this is the end of SVRA, which is looking like it. It seems like some of you dont care anymore. I said I wasn't gonna pick on some kids but I changed my mind. The Brooks bros obviously do not care. Oli doesn't even know who Jason King is. Estes, you have season tix, how many games you been to? God I don't even know who else is in this shit anymore to pick on.
So everyone get everything out. Stop the excuses there is not point, I know who doesnt care, you arent fooling me. Come out and say if you hate it or dont.
Here is some new Life Is... the final ever life is.
Life Is...3
On the final game of the 06-07 season SVRA had their final game together. Emotions ran high, or so some thought. As the final buzzer of the season and SVRA came the V Boys collected their thoughts, some cherished moments of the past, while some cherished the fact they no longer had to do it anymore. But then when news struck that SVRA would return some we're not so pleased, tell me who you are.
Our Time Is Never
Pirates Time Is Now
Drew, Ill see you at the games, anyone else, feel free to join.

I don't understand what the issue is with SVRA. Everyone was so sad, so disappointed to see it go. Then we realize we have the opportunity to make it happen and nobody cares. We've done like two games this season and we've definitely had the potential to do many more.
Look, I understand Westbrook Hockey conflicts. I understand there's several other things that are issues. That it feels like a job. I don't understand why it feels like a job. We go and scream our lungs out. Is it a job because we wear matching shirts? I think it's pretty fucking cool we got organized enough to buy our own shirts. I'd imagine most people around the CCCC don't think we're organized or mature enough to pull that off.
Mike is right. It takes maturity to be in SVRA. It's been demanded of us that we be mature at games by not swearing, taunting opposing radio announcers, or fucking off during the National Anthem. We were brash yet classy. And now we are not at all.
It's disappointing to me. Maybe it's because most of you hate Mike. I think Mike has toned down the whatever the fuck it was you all hated about him to begin with. Maybe you guys hate me? Feel free to say so because it's not like it's never been said to me before.
Maybe it's the bandwagon, maybe it's the cost, maybe it's the dedication, maybe it's conflict, maybe it's personality conflicts with other members. Whatever it is would everyone please state it now? Call me out, I don't care. Call out whoever you need to call out. Get it off your chest.
I'm offering one proposition. March 2nd, the Pirates play the Hartford Wolf*Pack. I will be there. Mike will be there. Most SVRA members will probably be there. The proposition is, do you guys want to reunite for a run at the playoffs? It would have to start then, with total dedication at every possible game. Ruthlessness. The guts and vocal chords that brought us to prominence, and the love for the team that generated the fond memories we all have.
It's up to you guys. I'll be at that game. Whether I sit with Drew or whether I sit with SVRA is up to everyone else.

And about the New Year's Eve game...we obviously couldn't get our seats to do it, and it's tough for me and Mike to sell to the Pirates that we need $20 seats at $8 a piece because we're doing SVRA when SVRA has been non-existant all season.

Not trying to start shit but I actually don't think anyone was in top V except for a fat woman and her hubby.
But if we can make this fun again then you know I'm in. And like Mike said, I could give 2 shits about the team. They weren't so hot last year an I hated the people on the team but I came. Portland Pirates hockey is huge to me and I plan on having season tix for as long as I'm living in southern Maine

You say "if we can make it fun again"...what are your ideas for making it fun again?

I'd love to reunite SVRA...as long as its not 1 night, then we do it again after like 5 home games, if we can have a streak of games then yeah, but we need to know if we can do that ahead of time. I think that the way we've been this season, we're just like all the other drunks that lose their minds at random points. If that makes any sense
But whether it's 1 game or 10 games, I'll be in V
